Lizi Whitton
I’m a children’s illustrator and painter from South London, the work I have made encapsulates my main focus points when it comes to my art. I often like to paint children with cats or different animals using mainly acrylic paint, gouache and oil pastels. My work is meant for both children and adults and I try to depict subjects that feel nostalgic to older people and familiar to children. I’m greatly inspired by fashion in my work and often use it to tell you more about the characters I portray.
This painting was made as a love letter to Harajuku Fashion, in particular the elements that I have had a deep connection with including Decora, Mori Kei, Cult Party and Yume Kawaii. The painting depicts three characters adorned in my favourite motifs and key features of said styles. The painting features Cat teeth elements which is my small brand inspired by Harajuku Fashion. I used collage with hand painted decopatch to express how much of Harajuku Fashion is handmade with love and how it brings together our communities.
